In 2026, Bikeability, the UK’s premier cycle training programme, introduced an innovative e-learning course designed to bolster adult cycling proficiency. This initiative aims to equip both novice and returning cyclists, including those opting for electric bikes or engaged in the delivery sector, with the essential skills to navigate UK roads safely.
Developed by The Bikeability Trust and supported by London-based bike-sharing company Forest, the CycleIn online course is available for £7.99. Spanning 90 minutes, it empowers participants to ride confidently alongside traffic. The course aligns with the Highway Code and the National Standard for Cycle Training, covering topics such as road positioning, junction navigation, route planning, e-bike usage, and urban cycling dynamics. Accessible via phone, tablet, or laptop, it offers flexibility for learners.
This e-learning launch follows the Trust’s “Lost Generation” report, also sponsored by Forest, highlighting UK adults who missed out on cycle training as children and now lack the confidence to ride. The report revealed that three-quarters of adults hadn’t cycled in the past year, with only 36% cycling regularly for commuting. It also noted that women are more likely to feel nervous about riding in traffic or handling unexpected road situations.
Emily Cherry MBE, Chief Executive of The Bikeability Trust, stated, “Many adults are locked out of cycling because they haven’t got road confidence. CycleIn changes that. Backed by The Bikeability Trust’s expertise, it gives people the knowledge they need to cycle on today’s roads safely. Cycling is one of the most affordable, healthy and sustainable ways to travel, but confidence is key. With CycleIn, we’re making that confidence accessible to everyone.”
Group licences for CycleIn are available, enabling employers to support the national Cycle to Work Scheme and reduce corporate carbon footprints, thereby advancing CSR objectives. The course serves as an addition to employee benefits packages, promoting active commuting and workforce well-being.
