A Twelve-Year Journey with FLY and BIKE: “You Truly Experience a Country on a Bike”
What makes a cycling holiday with FLY and BIKE so exceptional? To unravel this, we spoke with Greet from Ghent, who has been immersed in the world of cycling holidays for over twelve years with the Belgian specialist in distant adventures. From Myanmar and India to Jordan and various Southeast Asian countries, she consistently seeks out destinations that offer active exploration. Her latest journey took her from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in Vietnam through Cambodia to Bangkok in Thailand—and for the first time, she opted for an e-bike—a decision she has not regretted.
A First Journey That Sparked a Passion
The story began over a decade ago when two friends invited her on a cycling trip to Myanmar.
“I enjoy cycling and love to travel; the combination immediately appealed to me,” Greet recounts. That first trip was an instant success.
It wasn’t just the destination that impressed her; the meticulous organization by FLY and BIKE won her over right away.
“We had a fantastic guide, a support vehicle, and a mechanic ensuring the bikes were always in prime condition. This allowed me to relish the journey without worrying about practicalities. It was incredibly relaxing.”
This first experience ignited a passion, leading to many trips with FLY and BIKE, including explorations in India, Jordan, and various Southeast Asian locales.
“Each journey has its unique character, but the quality of the organization remains consistent, instilling a sense of trust.”

Three Countries, One Unforgettable Journey
On her most recent adventure, she traversed from Southern Vietnam through Cambodia to Thailand—a trip she describes as particularly diverse.
“Sailing on the Mekong from Vietnam to Phnom Penh was a stunning moment. You witness the landscape slowly transform while getting a unique glimpse into daily life along the river.”
Additionally, the two days spent cycling around the world-renowned temples of Angkor Wat rank among her highlights.
“You recognize Angkor Wat from photos, but experiencing it on a bike offers a much deeper appreciation of the site.”
What made this journey truly special was the chance to discover three markedly different countries in one holiday.
“Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand are close to one another yet vary significantly in atmosphere, culture, and landscape. You genuinely grasp these differences only while cycling through them.”
Cycling Truly Allows You to Experience a Country
According to Greet, this encapsulates the immense strength of a cycling holiday.
“You visit the iconic highlights typical of any classic tour, but you experience them completely differently.”
She elaborates on this point.
“From the bike, you can smell what’s being cooked on the street, hear the sounds of the village, and observe how people live and work. You can connect with the locals far more easily. Such experiences are simply missed when viewed from a bus.”
For her, this sensory engagement is one of the primary reasons she continually opts for cycling expeditions.
“You feel much more connected to your surroundings. You’re not just a spectator; you are an integral part of the landscape you ride through.”

Comfort Without Compromise
Though adventure is central, Greet emphasizes that comfort is not sacrificed.
“The accommodations are always top-notch, and the routes are expertly planned, primarily utilizing serene roads with little traffic.”
When a section isn’t suitable for cycling, they handle it with the support vehicle.
“This not only enhances safety but also allows you to enjoy the journey without the pressure of tackling a particularly challenging or perilous stretch.”
This combination of adventure and comfort is seen as a significant strength of FLY and BIKE.
First Times: Riding an E-Bike
On this latest journey through Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, Greet opted for an e-bike for the first time.
“This was a conscious decision because I’ve noticed I struggle more with the heat. As temperatures rise, cycling becomes significantly more challenging for me.”
The electric support turned out to be an excellent choice.
“I had little prior experience with e-bikes, but it exceeded my expectations. Despite each country having a different model, we always received thorough instructions, making it easy to feel at home on the bike.”
She is also quite pleased with the e-bike quality.
“They were exceptionally well-maintained and technically flawless throughout the trip.”

No Battery Worries
A frequently asked question regarding long-distance e-bike tours is whether the battery has enough capacity. Greet assures that participants need not worry.
“I never found myself without assistance. Each evening, all batteries were fully charged by our guides, allowing us to set off each morning with a fully powered e-bike.”
This, in her opinion, provided immense peace of mind.
“You don’t have to think about anything. Everything is taken care of, enabling you to wholly enjoy the journey.”
Unreservedly Recommended
After twelve years of experience, Greet remains exceptionally enthusiastic about FLY and BIKE adventures.
“I might have become somewhat spoiled by the stunning destinations I’ve visited,” she laughs. “But that’s why I believe this trip is perfect for those looking to embark on their first long-distance cycling holiday. You explore three beautiful countries, enjoy breathtaking nature and culture, and realize how extraordinary traveling by bike truly is.”
It’s hardly surprising that she wholeheartedly recommends FLY and BIKE.
“I frequently share my experiences with friends and acquaintances. For me, FLY and BIKE combines adventure, comfort, and outstanding organization. You explore magnificent destinations actively, free from concerns about logistics.”
As for her next adventure? It seems to be in the works.
“Together with a friend, I’m considering a trip to Morocco this autumn. It promises yet another beautiful blend of cycling, nature, and culture.”
After a dozen years and countless distant destinations, one thing is clear to Greet: you don’t just see a country with your eyes; you experience it with all your senses. And there’s no better way to do that than by bicycle.
