Royal Mail Revives Cargo Bike Deliveries with Minimal
In a decisive shift back to two-wheeled innovation, Royal Mail is reintroducing its cargo bike deliveries, this time through a partnership with Minimal, a prominent quadricycle manufacturer. Embracing the eco-friendly ethos, Royal Mail has committed to acquiring 20 Minimal Pedal 4 cycles, with the initial deployment set to commence in bustling urban areas like London, Cambridge, and Brighton. The move aligns Royal Mail’s operations with successful international models, such as GLS in Italy, which have demonstrated the efficacy of cargo bike delivery in major cities like Rome, Milan, and Bologna. Interestingly, Royal Mail previously discontinued its Pashley Pronto fleet in 2016, opting to recycle the vehicles in Africa.
The Minimal cargo bikes are designed to navigate roads, cycle paths, and greenways, requiring no specific licensing for operators—only basic training. This accessibility opens doors for a wider range of people to engage in delivery roles.
The fully electric Pedal 4 cycles boast an impressive range of up to 37 miles and can accommodate 2.5m³ of cargo. By circumventing urban traffic, deliveries become swifter and more efficient, translating into considerable cost savings for businesses. Some operators believe that many enterprises could recoup their investment within the first year.
