The system features a central d-line unit equipped with a removable battery that can be charged via a standard USB-C connection. However, the real marvel lies in its ability to connect seamlessly to the hub dynamo of the bike — allowing the internal battery to be recharged automatically while cycling. Velorian claims that this design renders the system nearly maintenance-free, eliminating the need for a separate battery that requires frequent recharging.

Meeting German Regulations

The timing of this launch aligns with significant changes in German regulations regarding bicycle indicators, effective in 2024. Previously, indicators were permitted only in limited scenarios, such as on certain multi-track bicycles. Following the amendments, indicators can now be installed on standard bicycles, provided they meet the required technical standards.

This legislative update creates a broader market potential for manufacturers and indicates a growing trend within the cycling industry toward integrated indicator solutions, especially within the cargo bicycle, speed pedelec, and heavier e-bike segments.

Emphasis on Repairability

Beyond usability, Velorian is committed to sustainability through repairability. Individual components—including cables, LED indicators, and mounts—will be available separately as spare parts. This means that should one part be damaged, it won’t necessitate replacing the entire system.

The internal buffer battery isn’t permanently enclosed, allowing for straightforward replacements using standard Li-ion formats. Furthermore, the casing is constructed from recyclable polyamide material, and the packaging is crafted from FSC-certified cardboard devoid of plastic blistering.

Kickstarter Campaign Launch

On September 1st, the Bio Bike Blinkerset’s Kickstarter campaign will kick off with a funding goal of €150,000. The initial “Early Bird” sets will be available for as low as €199 for standard bikes, €249 for cargo bikes, and €299 for recumbents. Early supporters can avail themselves of discounts up to 35% off the future retail price.
